This is the general question any user would ask the respective oil supplier for their brand. Generally, oil drain period (KMs for moving vehicle and hours for stationery engines) would depend on the following factors:
Engine Oil Performance Quality Level
1- API/ACEA levels
2- OEMs Specifications
Fuel Quality
1- Saturates
2- Sulfur Content
Engine Related
1- Naturally aspirated/Turbo-charged 2- Severity of Engine operation, ("normal", "Severe", "City driving", "Highway")
3- Engine oil sump capacity 4- Top-up oil consumption rate
5- Direct injection/indirect injection 6- Engine Maintenance practice
7- Emission control system (EGR/Timing etc) 8- Fuel consumption rate
Operating Conditions 1- Ambient temperature 2- Normal, moderate, severe, city, highway operations
3- Environment ("Hot", "Dusty", "Cold") 4- Road conditions
5- Driving habits 6- Load (Torque)
From the above, we can judge oil drain period not on absolute terms, rather it should be on comparative terms by conducting field test. Used Oil Analysis at different operating period will provide oil condition level and indications to determine oil change period.
Normally, auto manufacturers and industrial companies indicate the oil drain intervals in the respective machine service/operating manuals.
