Lubricants are mixture of two main ingredients :

    i.  Base Oils
    ii. Chemical additives

Depending upon the application requirements, mineral or synthetic base oils or combination of both are used.

The composition of base oils in lubricants can vary from 70% to 99%; compositions are mostly related to product applications.

Chemical additives are not pure chemicals having fixed physical and chemical properties. They are complex mixture of chemical intermediates added according to lubricant performance requirements. Chemical intermediates can be classified as follows :

   1- Dispersants
   2- Detergents
   3- Oxidation inhibitors
   4- Corrosion inhibitors
   5- Antiwar agents
   6- Viscosity modifiers
   7- Pour Point Depressants

Based oils and chemical additives are mixed in a simple blending kettle either at room temperature or slightly elevated temperature (40°C - 50°C) for better homogeneity. Base Oils and chemical additives compositions vary according to product applications and performance requirements.

Upon blending base oils and chemicals additives, the product is tested for quality assurance characteristics.
